Often passed by on the way to its well-known neighbor Bruges, Ghent is worth a look. A vibrant university city, this East Flemish town has much to offer. The center is car-free and one can enjoy some fine examples of Flemish medieval architecture in the form of Gravensteen Castle, numerous churches, the Saint Bavo Cathedral and several béguinages. I always enjoy getting lost while wandering through the cobbled streets, often stumbling upon unique shops or charming squares like this one.
