At the start of every new season I always declare, “I just love (name any season)!” And I really mean it. Hiking Québec: La Chouenne – Parc National des Grands Jardins
The way up this trail is just steep enough to make the way back down really fun. Add to that a mountain full of gorgeously light, fluffy powder and you’ve got yourself a perfect day.
Pond Hockey on Lac Beauport, Québec
Pond hockey was a new discovery for me, and in case it is for you too, it’s just what it sounds like – hockey played on a pond or other natural body of frozen water. Also, the rinks are smaller, the goals are lower and the players spend more time playing and less time fighting.

Cranberry picking in Québec
Québec is the third-largest producer of cranberries in the world, behind Massachusetts and Wisconsin, though most of the cranberries produced here eventually end up in the States anyways. Americans, myself included, really love their cranberries!
Essipit and Les Escoumins
In early summer, we rented a chalet in Les Escoumins for several nights with Mathieu’s family. Though we had rainy, cold weather almost the entire time, we enjoyed exploring this little section of the Côte Nord. This far up, the water is salty and one can observe the rise and fall of the tides. It almost felt like we were at the sea, instead of just on the St. Lawrence river.
